Jazzercise Changed My Life And Yes, Men DO Jazzercise!

Health Tips for Men

By David Marten, Jazzercise Fitness Instructor

Hi, my name is David and I have been a Jazzercise instructor since August 2012. I teach at the Topeka West Jazzercise Fitness Center in Topeka, Kansas.  Jazzercise has changed my life.  Prior to becoming an instructor, I was overweight, tired and just plain “spent” at the end of the day. It didn’t help that I also had sleep apnea.  These problems left me feeling angry with myself that I didn’t have the energy to spend quality time with my wife and daughter when I got home from work as I often dozed through the night on the couch.

I’m so glad I decided to take the leap into Jazzercise, first as a customer and then as a fitness instructor.  I was nervous at first as Jazzercise instruction is a female dominated career field and I thought the women would judge my dancing skills.  However, now I can see that the issues I was struggling with – weight, energy, attitude, etc. are problems that both women and MEN face.  The only thing stopping me from succeeding was my own attitude.

Now that I am a Jazzercise instructor, I have never been more fit in my life.  I have lost over 50 pounds and I have more energy to devote quality time to my family at night.  Jazzercise has made me a better man. My hope is that more men will get over the fear of dancing and join Jazzercise.  Believe me, their family will thank them!

I also wish more men joined our studio. I am one of only 2 men. Been doing this for 10 years. I may just pay and do the online JOD. There are many reasons for really becoming a bit frustrated with just me and so many women. Congratulations on becoming an instructor. I am 75 and go to jazz twice daily. Most days.
