6 Daily Habits to Improve Your Life (No Dieting Required)

We’re kicking off the new year with a little self-care and a lot of self-LOVE. With all the resolution talk in January, we want to take a moment to get real with you—keeping up that same ambition throughout the year (or even passed the first week!) can be tough. Between work, family and what seems like an endless amount of errands, those habits of success can get lost in the mix. The good news? These easy daily routine tips will get you off to a healthy start, without feeling deprived (or hangry!).

Jazzercise Pro-Tip: Start with one new healthy habit per week and add on from there!

1. Wake up early

Addicted to hitting snooze? It’s time to shake that habit! According to the Journal of Psychiatric Research, early risers have a 12-27% lower risk of depression than late sleepers, who also tend to have more irregular sleep patterns. Plus, waking earlier leaves plenty of time to get through your morning routine calm, cool and collected. Not feeling the early vibe? Start simply and wake up at the same every day to help regulate your sleeping (and rising) habits.

2. Ace Your Morning Routine

Plan ahead for your mornings and, if possible, adhere to the same routine each day. Whether the first thing you do is walk the dog, make breakfast or pack a lunch, keeping it consistent will you help you glide through morning with little to no hiccups.

3. Try a Coffee Substitute

Whether you’re looking to replace caffeine completely or find a coffee alternative, there are plenty of morning drinks for health out there that can give you a boost of energy. Here are a few of our favorites:

  • Warm Lemon Water: According to Medical News Today, lemon water has antioxidant properties and contains compounds that improve your metabolic health. It can also help improve your mood and boost energy levels—not bad for a two-ingredient coffee alternative!
  • Energy-Boosting Green Smoothie: It’s no secret “green means good,” but this power smoothie by Minimalist Baker is loaded with gobs of healthy ingredients that are great for you and taste amazing (not to mention, it’s gluten-free!).
  • Teeccino: We know what you’re thinking—what is teeccino? According to its namesake

it’s a “delicious blend of organic herbs, grains, fruits and nuts that are roasted and ground to brew and taste like coffee.” The beverage is naturally caffeine-free and is known to help those who drink it feel an energy boost.

4. Exercise

Exercise releases endorphins and makes you look and feel great. In fact, according to WebMD, the American College of Cardiology reported that good health really comes from working out 30 minutes a day, three to five times a week. Walk, bike, dance, do yoga - whatever floats your boat. Just get moving.

5.  Set yourself up for a good morning the night before

Great days begin with good nights. Set yourself up for a productive morning by putting your phone away at least 30 minutes before bedtime, set your clothes out for the next day and meal prep what you can for the day ahead to avoid the stress of rushing the next morning.

6. Be kind to yourself and give yourself a break

We’re only human and late mornings and unhealthy snacks are bound to happen. Don’t forget to go easy on yourself and live a little. Resolutions shouldn’t be about deprivation, instead we should be nourishing our lives with healthier choices and a little “me time.”

It’s never too late to add some of these healthy habits to your life. Every day is a fresh start and an opportunity to make better choices. Tell us about your morning routine in the comments. What’s your go-to pro-tip for starting the day off right?

I will be 83 in two weeks and have been doing Jazzercise for 20 years. I feel it keeps me going. I do it from 3-4 times a week. I try not to miss. The other days I work as a demonstrator at Costco. They both keep me going besides taking care of my 89 year old husband.

Another stress-reliever to afford good sleep is to write out reminder lists or a step forward to solve a problem so you can clear your mind and sleep. If you still wake up worried, keep a pad of paper and pen on the night stand to get it out and try to go back to those ZZzzzzs.

The most important starter in the morning is to thank God for giving you this day and asking him to help you use it in his honor.

Omg. Getting things ready the night before is such a lifesaver, especially with kids around. Our mornings, are never the same, but preparing some things, the night before makes a world of difference.
