Jazzercise News Releases
Jazzercise Partners with the ICAA
to Promote Senior Fitness
(CARLSBAD, CA– June
21, 2002) – Jazzercise, the world’s
leading dance fitness program, is proud to announce a new partnership with
the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) to promote fitness for
aging adults. The partnership names Jazzercise as the ICAA's official "Group
Fitness Programming Partner" and will engage the ICAA‘s efforts
to change society’s perceptions of aging and improve the quality
of life for aging baby boomers and older adults.
A report issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states
that life expectancy (in the U.S. ) has increased significantly from 47 years
in 1900 to close to 77 years in 2000, and that physical activity is the key
to healthy aging. “Nowhere is the gap wider between what we know and
what we do than in the area of physical activity. Nowhere is the potential
pay-off greater.”
Under the partnership, the ICAA and Jazzercise will promote healthy and
active living through the Jazzercise Lite fitness program to all current
and future ICAA members. Jazzercise Lite, the light version of the original
Jazzercise program, is the perfect fitness solution for seniors. As adults
get older, many of their physical needs and abilities change and differ from
those of the younger market. Jazzercise Lite is designed to accommodate these
differences, pairing moderate aerobics with exercises designed to improve
muscle tone, flexibility, balance, strength, and endurance using easy-to-follow
movements.
“Jazzercise is very excited about this new partnership with the International
Council on Active Aging,” says Jazzercise founder and CEO, Judi Sheppard
Missett. “It provides a platform for us to actively promote and provide
appropriate physical activity for the growing senior market.”
“We are thrilled to have Jazzercise as the ICAA's official "Group
Fitness Programming Partner", says ICAA CEO, Colin Milner. “Their
wealth of experience and exceptional track record in group exercise made
them the obvious choice, a tremendous addition to the ICAA, and a great
benefit to our members."
The ICAA is the only organization in North America dedicated
to changing the way we age by uniting and working with professionals in the
retirement, assisted living, fitness, rehabilitation and wellness fields.
It connects a community of like-minded professionals who share the goals
of changing society’s perceptions of aging and improving the quality
of life for aging baby boomers and older adults within the six dimensions
of wellness. The council supports these professionals with education, information,
resources, and tools, so they can achieve optimal success with this growing
market. To learn more about the ICAA, call 866-335-9777 or visit the ICAA
