JAZZERCISE ART & SOUL TOUR BRINGS
IN $560,000+ FOR CARLSBAD, CA (Oct. 31, 2005) - Jazzercise Founder and CEO Judi Sheppard Missett announced the successful wrap-up of the Art & Soul Tour, a series of fundraising benefits held to support Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The Tour hit nine U.S. locations, bringing together more than 2,000 fitness enthusiasts for high-energy workouts and raising a total of $560,000 with additional funds still coming in. Proceeds will fund the arts and the fight against breast cancer; in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the organizations also agreed that a portion would be directed to hurricane relief efforts. BGCA will use 25% of money raised to help affected Clubs rebuild and re-supply. The Komen Foundation will use 25% of the proceeds in their efforts to help Katrina victims with cancer related issues. Over the years, Jazzercise has acted upon Missett's philosophy of "giving back to the community." The Art & Soul Tour grew from a strong personal wish of Missett: to support the arts and the fight against breast cancer. "Art feeds the soul," says Missett, whose background stems in dance and theater, "and I also wanted to do something in memory and honor of a close friend who died from breast cancer seven years ago. I'm thrilled that we have been able to support these two causes as well as hurricane relief efforts, and thank everyone who participated for their dedication and time." BGCA President, Roxanne Spillett, says, "We greatly appreciate the generosity of everyone at Jazzercise. Their passion, enthusiasm and commitment to Boys & Girls Clubs of America will help us offer hope and opportunity to some four million young people." "A key to our success at the Komen Foundation is that we collaborate with a variety of organizations to provide creative ways for people to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer," says Cindy Schneible, vice president of cause-related marketing and sponsorship at the Komen Foundation. "We are proud to have the opportunity to partner with Jazzercise and to increase breast cancer awareness and allow participants of the Art & Soul Tour to make a valuable contribution to breast cancer research and community outreach programs."
