Dress 10 Pounds Slimmer

But, all joking aside, it really is a question that women want answered when they try on a summer dress, buy a new pair of jeans, or select the perfect outfit for a night on the town.

And the answer is … some clothes do make us look fat! The style, color, and combination of clothing can make a sizeable difference in creating a heavier look or helping us appear up to 10 pounds slimmer.

She recognizes that the sculpted muscles produced by her dance-fitness program are best shown-off with certain styles of attire. She offers these wardrobe suggestions for creating a slimmer look.

Go monochromatic. This trick, used by fashion editors and stylists, simply means that you wear only one color for your entire ensemble. It creates an illusion of length. For example, if you wear a navy blue outfit, but don a white belt, then you’ve created a break in the smooth, long line. Instead, wear the same color, or shades of the same color on top and bottom, with no breaks in the middle. If you want to add variety, then get creative with a funky handbag or shoes.

Practice the basics. If you must mix colors, then it’s always best to go lighter on top and darker on the bottom. Flow from head to toe, getting darker along the way. Wear tailored pants without pockets. For skirts and dresses, the A-line shape is always a great option for hiding trouble spots.

Select the right fabric. Avoid anything that can potentially bunch up and clingy fabrics that magnify your bulges. Instead, choose fluid fabrics like silk, linen, cotton, lightweight flannel, or flat knits. Be careful with any print fabrics, as they can actually make you look larger. Any type of vertical stripe is slimming, but horizontal stripes are a big no-no.

Know your body. The best way to slim-down your look is to know your body type, then dress accordingly. If you are heavier on top, then choose long jackets without shoulder pads or pleated skirts that draw the eye lower. Meanwhile, if you carry your weight in your lower half, then wear dark pants and use prints only on top.

Get the right undergarments. Your undergarments make a difference in showcasing or hiding bulge. Make sure you are wearing the right size. Ask for a complimentary bra fitting at a department or lingerie store. Try a “no-show” underwear design, which lays flat against your skin.

Accessorize. Wear accessories on the body parts to which you want to draw attention. If you just got a French manicure, then wear a ring or bracelet. If you’re having a good hair day, then draw attention upward with stylish earrings.

Accentuate the positive. Instead of thinking about hiding all of your flaws, showcase your favorite feature. Think about creating a look that draws the eye towards the unique, beautiful features that set you apart from everyone else. Then, stand tall, walk confidently, hold your head up high, and let your inner beauty shine.
